St Thomas’ Church Stockton Heath to receive £19,600 from second round of the Government’s Culture Recovery Fund

In January we had the opportunity to apply for a Culture Recovery Fund Grant with St Thomas’ church being a Grade 2 listed building and heritage site. The Government, through the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport are allocating £1.57 billion to the Culture Recovery Fund to help organisations recover and reopen fully. The funding has been awarded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund and Historic England as well as the British Film Institute and Arts Council England following a strict application procedure.

The grant will facilitate full re-opening and gradual resumption of all our usual activities safely with robust Covid secure practices, assist with essential maintenance and repairs, including to our historic Pipe Organ, enable volunteer training and help us welcome visitors again maximising their experience and enjoyment of the spiritual space and heritage on offer. This financial help will also ensure our sustainability moving forward and help us address the financial challenges which have arisen during the Covid pandemic. The needs of the local community have heightened during the pandemic with social isolation, financial challenges, effects on physical, emotional and mental health. We have made extensive efforts to be ‘present’ in these situations, showing God’s love in practical and prayerful ways and have proved that ‘we are and can be Church’ in many different modalities. Our mission is to be a place of welcome, hope and fellowship showing and sharing God’s love within our congregations and the community. To do this, we need financial sustainability, and this grant will help us achieve this, thrive and grow.
